Hoof Aid Powder
Support hoof growth and strength through a combination of Biotin and key minerals
View ProductProper hoof care is essential for a horse’s well-being, as a horse’s hooves continuously grow at a rate of 6-10mm per month, reflecting their overall health. Various factors such as nutrition, farrier care, environmental conditions, exercise, and genetics can influence hoof growth and quality.
Horses may experience slow-growing hooves or hoof problems, such as crumbly white horn, brittle hooves, and hoof cracks, which often require specialized farrier attention. However, a balanced diet and specific supplementation can play a role in supporting long-term hoof growth and strength, maintaining optimal hoof condition. Traditional grain only (unbalanced) diets commonly fed in the Middle East can be lacking in the essential nutrients needed to promote optimal hoof growth.
“Hoof Aid” is a liquid horse hoof formulation containing a combination of nutrients, including biotin, zinc, and methionine, designed to maximize hoof quality.
Biotin for horses: Biotin is a well-known hoof supplement ingredient with various important functions in the body. It plays a critical role in hoof strength by supporting cell growth and division. Scientific studies suggest that a daily dose of 15-20mg of biotin per horse can improve hoof strength and quality.
Zinc for horses: Zinc is essential for hoof strength. It is a mineral necessary for the production of keratin, a strong protein that forms the majority of the hoof and gives it the ability to withstand loading. Low blood zinc levels have been linked to poor hoof horn quality.
Methionine: Methionine is an essential amino acid that horses must obtain through their diet since their bodies cannot produce it. In hoof growth, methionine is converted to cysteine, and research has shown a direct correlation between the amount of cysteine in a hoof and its hardness.
When using hoof supplements, it’s crucial to understand that improvements in hoof quality may take four to six months to become evident, as supplementation primarily benefits new hoof growth. It is recommended to continue supplementation for at least one year, or longer, if necessary, to maximize the benefits to the hooves. Hoof Aid is suitable for daily use to encourage and maintain healthy hoof growth.
Consider environmental conditions when deciding to use a hoof supplement and for how long. Horses living in areas susceptible to very dry weather conditions such as the Middle East may be more likely to develop hoof problems, like cracking, making continual use of a horse hoof supplement advisable for these horses.
Optimum hoof health in horses can generally be achieved through a combination of good horse husbandry, appropriate nutrition, and regular farrier attention. Proper care, along with the right supplements when needed, will help keep a horse’s hooves in the best possible condition.
