Wexford’s Bertram Allen has secured an excellent victory in today’s (Sunday) four-star Longines Trophy Grand Prix at Maastricht in The Netherlands, coming out on top with the 12-year-old grey gelding Gin Chin van het Lindenhof.

Seven of the 37 starters made it into the jump-off with Allen going on to post the fastest of four clears in the second round and crossed the line in 38.99 seconds to take the winners prize of €33,000. While victory eluded riders from the home country, Dutch riders did manage to fill two of the top three places. Gerco Schröder (NED) finished as runner-up with Glock’s Cognac Champblanc (39.38), while Kim Emmen (NED) finished third with Delvau (40.61).

Offaly’s Darragh Kenny had the fastest time of the jump-off with Balou du Reventon, but missed out on victory when lowering a single fence in 37.37. Kenny collected €10,000 for his fourth place finish

Irish riders were out of luck in the latest round of the Longines FEI World Cup at Madrid in Spain. Denis Lynch failed to make the jump-off with The Sinner when they lowered just the first fence in the opening round. Mark McAuley and Jasco vd Bisschop finished with 5 faults in a competition won by Germany’s Daniel Deusser with Tobago Z.
